The superb – and free – Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is located in the South Bank Cultural Precinct, in two neighbouring but contrasting buildings along the river. They exhibit hosts almost 1,700 works of art from all around the world, with an emphasis on Australia, the Pacific, and Asia.

This striking collection is sure to elicit lively debate among art enthusiasts of all colours. Even the award-winning, glass-encased architecture of the Museum of Modern Art makes a statement.

The International and Asian Collection, which includes classic and contemporary pieces, the Indigenous Australian Collection, and the spectacular sculptures that adorn the grounds, are all permanent exhibitions at the Queensland Art Gallery. The interior is stunning. The light that rushes in through floor-to-ceiling windows is reflected by water features and massive chandeliers.

Sculpture, painting, video, film, and photography are among the mediums represented at the Gallery of Modern Art. There’s always something new to see here thanks to special exhibits. The intriguing contemporary art installations are not to be missed.
